" I'm LimTze Peng, I'm an Artist."
Lim Tze Peng, born in 1921, earned acclaim as a Singaporean artist, receiving the Cultural Medallion in 2003. Transitioning from teaching to painting, his career flourished with notable exhibitions showcasing evolving creativity. Despite retiring in 1981, Lim persisted in his passion, even at 102. Raised in Pasir Ris, his journey from school to teaching at Xin Min School laid the foundation for his artistic endeavors. From landscape paintings of old Chinatown to abstract expressions, Lim's artistry evolved, culminating in exhibitions in Beijing and Shanghai. His wife's steadfast support, recognized during his Cultural Medallion acceptance, remains a pillar in his life at 100.

PM LEE'S SPEECH
Good afternoon everybody.
I would like to say how delighted I am to join you all for the book launch and exhibition of “Soul of Ink: Lim Tze Peng at 100”.
Today, we honour the remarkable accomplishments of Mr Lim Tze Peng – one of Singapore’s most accomplished artists.
Let me start with a few words first in Mandarin:
今天能够为我国书画家林子平先生祝寿,这是我的荣幸。林先生体现了活到老,学到老了的精神。到了百岁还继续寻求创新,突破自己,他的坚持令人钦佩。年到百岁,松青鹤唱,在此祝林先生福寿康宁、万寿无疆。

Lim Tze Peng's artistic journey has witnessed many milestone achievements. In 1977, he received a Special Prize at the Commonwealth Art Exhibition in the United Kingdom, greatly boosting his confidence. In 2003, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion, and in 2009, he became the first Singaporean artist to hold a solo exhibition in China. In 2016, he was honored with the Meritorious Service Medal, making him one of the oldest recipients of this distinction, standing shoulder to shoulder with other pioneer artists.

Lim Tze Peng, born in 1921, is a revered Singaporean artist whose lifelong passion for painting has shaped his illustrious career. The gallery's solo exhibition showcases his personal collection and masterpieces donated to Singapore's National Collection. Through landscapes, mindscapes, and 'heartscapes,' viewers are invited to delve into the depth of Lim's artistic journey, gaining a deeper understanding of his remarkable contributions to Singapore's art scene.
